This a small portion of a painting by Van Gogh that I blew up to a 24 x 36 inches, called “The Seed Sower”. When I saw this painting for the first time at the “Van Gogh-Gauguin’ exhibition at the Chicago Art Institute. I had a deep feeling of somberness come over me.

About Me

My interest in art began at an early age when I received these small color by number paints from my aunt who worked at Master Craft a company that produced color by number kits popular in the 1960’s. If you were to buy the kit you could seemingly paint a great work of art by opening up a box of premixed paint colors and paint a board with an image detailed in lines and numbers for each color of paint.  When finished, it was to be a masterpiece that you  actually painted. Instead I just used those pre mixed paint colors to paint my own paintings.  I still have one painting I made from them at age seven.   However my biggest childhood break in art was when I  got a scholarship to attend the the Toledo Museum of Art at the end of 3rd grade for the Saturday art program that I then began the beginning of mt 4th grade school year. This really propelled me into the art world because the art museum was the hub of all my art activity at this early age and it introduced me to so much variety of art through its own teachings, collections and exhibits.  My favorite of which was an exhibition “The Art Of Van Gogh” in 1968. This was an international exhibition that displayed his paintings and actual drawings of which are no longer lent out because of their fragility. I still remember seeing people dressed with wooden shoes that came all the way from Holland to view this exhibit. These precious works undoubtedly inspired me early on. There are many more great artist I explored and admire but this one sticks out the most to me. I hope you can see the influence in my own work here at this website.
